The Convicts is supposedly to be a book for kids grades However, perhaps because I listened to the audio book, and the reader was 5 star, I was enthralled in the tale. If you enjoy novels set in England set in any era as I do for some reason, this reads, or I should say, listens like an adult novel/5.
The Convicts has been compared to Charles Dickens' stories, because of the setting, the time period, and the cruel treatment of poor families and children. But this is much grittier and more cruel, and of course without the Dickens skill in writing.
